NO RIDE JULY 4th

Hello Summit Bikers,

There will be no ride on July 4.  In general, the County is very crowded over the July 4th weekend, and it is risky to ride.  We will have a ride July 11.  Also mark your calendars for the grand opening July 13 at 4 pm.  The path is likely to be open prior to this, possibly this weekend.  Let's hope the weather pattern changes soon.

Ride Safe,

Bike Ride June 27

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next week's ride, June 27 will be to either Montezuma, A-Basin or Loveland Pass.  We will meet at the Dillon Amphitheater Parking lot ready to ride at 9:30 am.  I suggest avoiding the rec path through Keystone as more tourists may make it busy.  The suggested way is to turn right on Elk Drive going through the fence to Keystone Ranch Road and going left through the River Run Area of Keystone (groups often gather back up in River Run, since this is convenient for bathroom and water) to Montezuma Road and to Montezuma.  Anyone not familiar with this route should let the me know so we can match you up with another rider.  Please do not gather on the road at the end of Montezuma Road.  When you turn around in Montezuma to return stay off to the right side of the road.  For those who want to do a little more ride out to Keystone Ranch on return.   I will have the picnic supplies so bring a sandwich, something to share and your drink.  Hope the weather is as good as it was last week.  Please wear name tags from any organization at the picnic.

Ride Safe,

John Bowyer

Re: [Summit Biking] Bill Tracy

Such devastating and sad news. Inevitable, but way too soon.  So good to have seen him last Saturday at the amphitheater. Can't imagine Jeanne's heart break.

He smiles upon us all from heaven.

Such a loss to us all here upon this earth.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share this news with our members. Long-time and very active Summit Biking member, Bill Tracy, died today after a valiant and unyielding battle with cancer. In May, he and his dear wife Jeanne were still organizing rides for the club. Three weeks ago, they rode their e-bikes up Independence Pass. And just last week, they were dancing at a Dillon Amphitheater concert! The Board and many of our members will miss Bill's company, his smile, and... that twinkle in his eyes.

Please keep his wife, Jeanne (also a long-time, active member), in your thoughts and prayers.

June 20 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next week's ride, June 20, will be the Green Mountain Reservoir. This ride was canceled previously due to snow and there is a chance for showers Monday, but it looks like in the afternoon.  The start of the ride is at the intersection of Route 9 and Heeney Road, approximately 20 miles north of Silverthorne. Plan to be ready to ride at 9:30 am. Most of the parking is on route 9 at the intersection with Heeney Road. Be careful crossing route 9 as it is a busy road. Heeney Road is not very busy, but it is a road with some traffic and people are encouraged to ride single file near the shoulder. This is the only Summit County ride with rolling hills as you ride on the west side of the reservoir.  Pay attention as there are some potholes and a rough spot or two.

Afterwards, we will have a picnic at North Pond in Silverthorne. North Pond is across from the elementary school at the corner of Hamilton Creek Road and Route 9. Please bring something to share with your friends, whatever you want to drink and a sandwich (as we will not have a grill). Be sure to wear name tags, especially at the picnic. Keep in mind your coordinator (me) is really old and forgetful.  We do not rent the facility so hopefully it will not be in use.

For new people the rule is if it is raining at 9 am do not bother going.  One other thing if you are not sure if you have paid or not, just send an email to Chip Babbit (cdbabbitt@comcast.net).

I do need help to run the bikes rides, as I am trying to phase out.  It is fairly easy to coordinate.  Ride coordinators are especially needed after August 20, when I will be gone for a month.
Ride Safe!

Feel free to invite new Summit County riders to join us for this ride.

Fw: Gap on Dillon Dam Road Rec Path

Hello Summit Bikers,

I mentioned this this morning but since it is so dangerous, I wanted to notify all of you.  Pam, who was on today's ride took pictures and emailed the Summit County Open Space and Trails Director and it will be repaired.  In the meantime, it is critical that everyone pay attention when passing the bollards closest to Dillion along the dam.  As shown by Pam's picture below a tire will fit in the crack and if this happens it could result in a serious accident.

Ride Safe and see you next week.

Monday June 6 Summit Biking Ride

Next Monday, June 6 we will ride around Lake Dillon starting from the Dillon Amphitheater parking lot. Be ready to ride at 9:30. The loop around the lake is 18 miles. If you would like to add extra miles, consider riding to Keystone or Breckenridge to make it a 2+ hour ride. Following the ride we will have a picnic lunch in the pavilion overlooking the lake. Bring your own lunch and beverage and if you would like bring something to share.

Feel free to invite new Summit County riders to join us for this ride.

If you have a name tag, please consider wearing it at the picnic.

Ride safe and have fun!
