No Ride September 4 Labor Day

Hello Summit Bikers,

I hear people have been slacking off while I have been out of town.  Good news is Monday is Labor Day so you get this week off as well.  The following week, September 11 we will be meeting in Georgetown to ride either Guanella Pass, Loveland Ski Are or to Idaho Springs.  This was schedule for a week later but people have asked that it be moved up so we hopefully avoid the leaf peepers.  More info next week.

Lunch after Monday, 8/28/2017 ride

If your are riding with group on Monday, 8/28/2017 and coming to lunch with us, we will be dining at Casa Blanca on 2nd Street in Leadville  (half block up from Harrison, the main street in town).  I suspect we'll get there between 11:30 & noon.  Our reservation is under my name, Bob.  The restaurant phone number is 719-486-9969.  They do not take credit cards.  It's cash only there.

If you get lost coming to the ride or going to the restaurant, call me on my cell at 570-807-6550. I'll try to help you out.

August 28, 2017 Turquoise Lake Ride

Next week, Monday, August 28th, we will try again to do a Turquoise Lake ride.  We will meet at the Turquoise Lake dam at 10 AM, ready to ride.  We will not be doing a picnic this week.  I'm planning a lunch at a restaurant in Leadville.  It would be very helpful, if I had count on the number of people who are planning to do this ride & have lunch with the group.

Please email me (pa1co2rv3@yahoo.com) by Saturday 8/26/2017 to let me know whether you are planning on riding with us and having lunch with group.
Bob

Directions to Turquoise Lake dam:
From the Copper Mtn exit on I 70, take route 91 south toward Leadville.  As you enter Leadville there will be a Safeway on your right at a stop light.  Continue on US 24 past the Safeway toward E 8th St, turn right on W 8th St, bear right onto James St,  turn left onto McWethy Dr, turn right onto CR-4 to the dam.

August 7 Bike Ride

Good Morning,

It appears we can get the ride in Vail done today prior to rain.  Be sure to take rain gear, just in case.  If you get to Big Horn Park and are ready early, feel free to start.  We will have the picnic along with the grill afterwards.

See you in East Vail!

August 7 Bike Ride

Check your email in the morning regarding the ride.  As of this writing there is a good chance of rain, however, after last week I am reluctant to call off the ride until the last minute.  I will try to have an email out before 7 am.

Hope to see you in the morning.

August 7 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next Monday, August 7 we will once again venture outside Summit County to East Vail.  The ride will be from Big Horn Park, starting at 10 am.  There will be a grill available so plan to bring something to cook (more people either need to use the grill or we should stop having it), a drink and a dish to share with your friends. For those who would like to car pool meet at the west end of Frisco at the parking lot at 8:45 am.  Carpools are recommended  as parking is tight.  Multiple rides are available from Big Horn, including West Vail Pass and the Gore Trail trough Vail and onto Minturn or Edwards.  The picnic will start around noon.

Directions to Big Horn Park: Go West to exit 180 in East Vail. Get off on the right and turn left going under I-70 on Bighorn Road. Go right on Streamside Circle. Stay on Streamside Circle and turn right on Meadow Drive. Bighorn Park is on the left ahead.

The following week, August 14 will be our annual meeting so plan to attend.  Other changes are also being made to the calendar for future rides, such as adding Turquoise Lake back in.

Remember the tourist are in town (West Vail also gets many downhill riders), slow down and do not cut corners.  Use hand signals and let others verbally know where you are.

Ride safe and have fun!
