June 3 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next weeks ride, June 3, will be the Green Mountain Reservoir. The start of the ride is at the intersection of Route 9 and Heeney Road, approximately 20 miles north of Silverthorne. Plan to be ready to ride at 9:30 am. Most of the parking is on route 9 at the intersection with Heeney Road. Be careful crossing route 9 as it is a busy road. Heeney Road is not very busy but it is a road with some traffic and people are encouraged to ride single file near the shoulder. This is the only Summit County ride with rolling hills as you ride on the west side of the reservoir.  Pay attention as there are some pot holes and a rough spot or two.

Afterwords, we will have a picnic at North Pond in Silverthorne. North Pond is across from the elementary school at the corner of Hamilton Creek Road and Route 9. Please bring something to share with your friends, whatever you want to drink and something to grill as we will have a grill. Be sure to wear name tags, especially at the picnic.

This is a fun ride to bring a guest along since it is an out and back and difficult to get lost on.

Ride Safe!

May 27 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Looking outside I can see the sun, so thought I should put out next weeks ride.

Our next ride, May 27 will be between Idaho Springs and Georgetown and back.  Be prepared to ride at 10 am.  The major road work in Idaho Springs seems to be mostly over, so we are returning to the Courtney Ryley Cooper park (2350 Colorado Blvd).  Idaho Springs built a parking lot in front of the park that will hold about 25 cars.  Other parking is to the west on Colorado Blvd.

To get to the park from Summit County take exit 240 from I 70, and turn left onto 13th Ave.  Turn right on Colorado Blvd and continue on to park (on the left).  The drive takes about 45 minutes.  Picnic to follow at the park after the ride.  Please bring something to share with your friends as well as a sandwich and something to drink.  We will not have a grill.

Riders are encouraged to use hand signals so others are aware of turns, stops and road obstacles.  Riders are encouraged to wear name tags since there are many new people.  Any name tag will do as long as it shows your name.

In case of a breakdown on the day of the ride call my cell number is 970-393-2190

Ride safe and have fun!

May 20 Bike Ride Cancelled

Hello Summit Bikers;

One of the hardest aspects of coordinating rides is watching the weather.  It now appears there is high chance of rain in Morrison and Denver which means we should not make the trip.  Hopefully, we will have a change in the weather pattern soon.

Next week's ride, May 27, we will meet in Idaho Springs.  Email to follow.

May 20 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

We had a great start to the season last week, thanks to Steve and Sandy Ladin for hosting the get together at Anthem Ranch along the Front Range.  We had 38 people which is a good start for the season given the ride is so far from Summit County.  Steve coordinated one of the rides with Berry leading the other one.  Thanks for all the work everyone put in to making this two day event a success.

Our next ride will be May 20 along Bear Creek.  Starting west of the 470 loop near Bear Creek Lake Park at the Morrison exit. There will be no picnic this week. Those wanting to stay for lunch can go to lunch at the Red Rocks Grill in Morrison. They are located at 415 Bear Creek Avenue.  I need to get a few miles (RTR training) so will not be joining the group this year for lunch.

Directions to Ride

To get to the start of the ride go east on 70 toward Denver and get off on 470 south. Take 470 to the Morrison exit and turn right. The parking lot is on the right at the corner of S. Rooney Road and Morrison Road (across from a Philips 66 gas station). If you are late, the bike path is across Morrison Road from the parking area, then ride east under 470. The drive from exit 205 (Silverthorne) to the start is approximately 1 hour. Plan to be ready to ride by 10 am. If it appears likely that it will rain during the ride I will send an email out the afternoon before, canceling.  Currently the prognosis is 60 percent chance.  Most years we have one ride cancelled due to weather, this may not be a typical year!

This season`s rides are on the website SummitBiking.org.  There is a lot of other useful information on the site such as safety tips and where Summit Bikers can get discounts at local bike shops.  Members without a life time membership should use the website and join for the 2019 bike season.  Even I have to pay up! This is also a great time to tell others about our rides, since most Summit Country people are very active.

Looking forward to another great season of rides, with a wonderful group!

Bike Ride May 20

Sitting on a beach in Mexico but wanted to get this brief note out.  Next weeks ride will be Bear Creek from Morrison.  We will meet at 10 am.  I will be back in Summit County on Friday and get out the details to everyone over the weekend but wanted you to all know we will have a ride Monday May 20.  For those who have not done it get those bikes off the wall and make sure everything is ready.

Ride Safe,

I regret that I can't cycle with summit biking this year, as I am scheduled for shoulder replacement June 5 with a 4 month rehab. I'll contact you next year to sign up again. Have fun.

Welcome Letter Individual Dues Correction

The recent Welcome Letter from Bob contained a typo for our 2019 Individual Dues. The correct amount is $15/individual, the same as last year and as shown on the Membership Page of our website. Couples Dues were correct at $25.

We apologize for any confusion our error caused.
