NO RIDE JULY 5

Hello Summit Bikers,

Just a reminder we will not have a bike ride July 5.  Normally the County is very busy the days around Memorial Day, Forth of July and Labor Day.  The bike paths can be very crowded during this time and if any of ride I suggest going early and using lots of caution.

I will be putting out an email regarding our July 12 ride but it will Turquoise Lake near Leadville.  A ways to drive but the ride is beautiful.

Bike Ride June 28

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next weeks ride, June 28 will be to either Montezuma, A-Basin or Loveland Pass.  We will meet at the Dillon Amphitheater Parking lot ready to ride at 9:30 am.  I suggest avoiding the rec path through Keystone as more tourist may make it busy.  The suggested way is to turn right on Elk Drive going through the fence to Keystone Ranch Road and going left through the River Run Area of Keystone (groups often gather back up in River Run, since this is convenient for bathroom and water) to Montezuma Road and to Montezuma.  Anyone not familiar with this route should let the me know so we can match you up with another rider.  Please do not gather on the road at the end of Montezuma Road.  When you turn around in Montezuma to return stay off to the right side of the road.  For those who want to do a little more ride out to Keystone Ranch on return (I was informed although it has been chipped sealed it is not bad, although I urge caution).   I will have the picnic supplies so bring a sandwich, something to share and your drink.  Hope the weather is as good as it was today.  Please wear name tags.

As a reminder this Wednesday is Ride To Work or Wherever Day in Summit.  A number of locations in Summit County will have breakfast items and most will have bike techs available.  Locations will be open between 7:30 and 10:30.  Locations include Frisco Historical Park and upper County Commons; Dillon at intersection of Amphitheatre and Recpath; Silverthorne Pavilion Patio; Breckenridge Blue River Plaza; Summit Cove Intersection of Swan Mt Road and Six.

There will be no ride the following week, as it is July 4 weekend and the County normally is very crowded.  Be very careful if you do plan to ride over the Fourth.

Ride Safe and Enjoy!

June 21 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next week, June 21 we are doing Tour De Soda.  Plan to meet at North Pond (Silverthorne on right side of Route 9, near the elementary school) at 9:30 am, ready to ride.

The route takes us to the River Run Area of Keystone, out to the Old Ranch House, through Soda Creek and back to our cars.  Please print out the directions below and have them with you.   There are a number of turns but once you ride through it is not that complicated.  Some changes are in this years ride so all should have.  I realize this is not as easy as most of our rides to follow but does take you to some new places.

There are lots of new members this year and I ask each of you to make a special effort to make them fell welcome.  Wear name tags so people get to know each other better.  The fit kits will be available at this ride.  Shirts are selling nicely so do not be left out when we all ride with them.

Anyone interested in taking a few rides please let me know at bikebreck@yahoo.com.  I have directions an information about all our rides but after many years of doing this could use assistance.

Bike Ride June 14

Our next ride, June 14 will be between Idaho Springs and Georgetown and back.  This is a change from our calendar since we had to cancel this ride over Memorial Day and since it is a popular ride I thought we should do before things get to hot.  Be prepared to ride at 10 am.  This ride is an out and back but there are some turns so new people should ride with someone. Identify yourself to me the day of the ride and we will take care of you. I have found a new parking area and confirmed with the visitor center we are good to park there.  To get to the parking take exit 240 to the South (right) and turn into the former visitor center (almost an immediate right).  There are two lots, with the further one saying employee only -- do not park there.  There are no bathrooms at this location.   The bike path starts between the parking lot and I 70 so we no longer need to ride through town.  Parking is still tight so riders are encouraged to car pool.

We will not have a picnic as there are no facilities.  A number of the participants plan to stop at Cabin Creek Brewery in Georgetown.  This is the new brewery you will pass on the left just before you reach Georgetown.  The fastest way to get there is to take I 70 to the Georgetown exit, go past the visitor center and take the second exit off the round about (headed toward Idaho Springs).  The brewery is on your right next to the first lake you come to.

Riders are encouraged to use hand signals so others are aware of turns, stops and road obstacles.  Riders are encouraged to wear name tags at lunch since there are many new people.  Any name tag will do as long as it shows your name.

I will be back for this ride, but since I am out of shape will not be the fastest.  If the odds of rain are still high on Sunday this ride will have to be canceled.  Please check emails on Sunday evening.

Ride safe and have fun!

June 7 Bike Ride

Next week, June 7 we will ride around Lake Dillon, starting at the Dillon Amphitheater.  Be ready to ride at 9:30. The loop around the lake is only 18 miles so get in some extra miles with out & backs to Keystone or Breckenridge to make it a 2+ hour ride.  We will have the picnic lunch at the pavilion overlooking the lake.  Please bring something to share with your friends as well as a sandwich and whatever you would like to drink.  Our new jerseys will be available to try.

Invite new Summit County riders to join us for this ride.

If you have a name tag from any organization please bring it & wear it at the picnic.  Remember you are dealing with old people that have problems remembering names from one year to another.

Ride safe and have fun!
