Hello!

My husband, Roy Burger, is President of the Boulder Cycling Club.  I am reaching out to you on his behalf.

He and I were to be leaving on a great trip May 8th, spending a few days in Madrid and then heading to Majorca to cycle for a week.  Unfortunately, Roy has been wicked sick for almost 4 weeks with a bronchial infection - he coughed so hard he fell 1.5 weeks ago, torqued his ankle which caused ligaments to tear and his fibula to fracture.  His surgery is scheduled for 4/23. Unfortunately on the day he fell we were looking at trip insurance but had not purchased it yet.  Ugh.  So...We are sad to not be able to take this trip!  

However, our loss could be someone else's gain.  We'd love to sell our week in Majorca to two folks for half-price!

Our week is May 12-19.  The cost includes:

• Round trip airport shuttle
• Lodging (including tax)
• Daily coach-led Cycling Rides for all levels of cyclists
• Shared Van (trips to grocery store, restaurants, etc.)
• All Breakfasts & Dinners
• Fit 4 Adventure Cycling Jersey

We are willing to sell ours for $600 each - a savings of $559 pp. 

The cost does not include airfare, which we had found fairly reasonable using British Airways and Iberia (we were using miles on Southwest to get from Denver to Boston). Nor does it include bike rental, which I was able to do for about $125 for the week. 

Whoever goes does not have to ride bikes - they can simply enjoy exploring the island, historical sites, restaurants & beachfront bars, and its beaches!

May 14 and 15 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

It is time to take the bikes out of winter storage and prepare for another biking season.  Chains should be clean and lubricated, wheels pumped up, brakes checked and in general make sure everything is tight.  For those bikers not confident in their ability to get their bike to top working order take it in to one of the local bike shops.

Many of our members have either moved or have a second home along the front range so this year we are having a two day ride there, May 14 and 15th.  The first day we will do a ride near Anthem Ranch, with a pot luck picnic dinner in the evening.  Steve Ladin has agreed to lead the first day's ride near Anthem and to host a pot luck dinner together with Sandy Ladin and Bonnie Guthrie.  The second day will be led by Barry Lazarus nearer Denver.  This may be followed by a lunch out, more details to follow.  Since most of us have to make a run to the Front Range for Costco, Applejacks and other needs I encourage you to plan to make those stops as part of this two day ride.  

Possibilities for lodging include, friends at Anthem, or there are a few hotels close by.  In order to plan for this trip we would like to get an idea of those who plan to come.  I am working with members who live in Anthem to see who will be a available and may be willing to lodge some of us for one night.  Please respond to me at Bikebreck@yahoo.com.

Details are still being worked out, however I wanted to give everyone a heads up that things are in the planning stage for another great biking season.

Ride The Rockies 2019 Tour

Hello Summit Biking;

We now have a team of six for this years Ride the Rockies bike tour, June 9 through 15.

There is still time to join us but time is running out.  The team name, which you should identify when joining is Team Summit.  To select our team, during registration click on "Team Member Registration" and in a drop down menu a list of the teams available drops down, scroll down to Team Summit and click on it.  There is an online processing fee that can be avoided by calling Ride the Rockies (303-954-6700) and requesting a one time code.  Entering this code allows you to join the ride and then send in a check to "Ride the Rockies."

This years ride goes from and returns to Gunnison.   Being on our team guarantees you the lowest price and the team is open to all riders, whether a member of Summit Biking or not.  Anyone having a question can contact me at Bikebreck@yahoo.com. 

This will give you a good excuse to get out and ride this Spring and be in shape for all our summer rides.

I realize it is difficult to think about biking with all the great snow we have been having,  but now is the time to start planing for this year's Ride The Rockies tour, June 9 through 15.

September 10 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next weeks ride, September 10, has several options, including Guanella Pass, Loveland Ski Area or Idaho Springs.  Be ready to ride at 10 am from next to the Georgetown Visitor Center along Argentine Road (take exit 228 off I 70).  Parking is available along Argentine Road as the visitor center asked us not to take up all their parking.  Since there are no grills bring a sandwich and a drink for after the ride during our social hour following the ride as well as a dish to share with your friends.  In addition, please bring and wear name tags. The picnic will start around 12:15, although the Guanella Pass riders may need more time. The road to Guanella Pass has been chipped sealed and is rough to ride down.

If the weather does not look good for Monday I will send out an email, late Sunday.

August 27 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Summit Bikers adopted a section of the Recpath to clean up on the East side of the Swan Mountain Recpath and next week's ride will be our annual clean up.  Come prepared with a small plastic bag (like those provided at the super market).  We will meet at the Dillon Amphitheater ready to ride at 9:30 am.  The ride will be clockwise around the lake.  Based on my observations there will be little trash to pick up on our section.  Our head trash person, Charlie, will explain the trash procedures prior to the ride.  Those that would like to add a few additional miles can add on a ride to Copper prior to returning to the amphitheater for lunch.  There will be no grill this week but please bring a dish to share, a sandwich and a drink.  Plan to be back for the picnic around 11:30 or so.  Hope to see you there.

August 20 Ride

Next week we will ride to either Montezuma, A-Basin or Loveland Pass.  We will meet at North Pond in Silverthorne, ready to ride at 9:30 am.  There will be a grill so plan to bring something to cook, as well as a dish to share.  As always bring whatever you want to drink.  I suggest avoiding the rec path through Keystone as things are very busy.   The suggested way is to turn right on Elk Drive going through the fence to Keystone Ranch Road and going left through the River Run Area of Keystone to Montezuma Road and to Montezuma.  Please do not gather on the road at the end of Montezuma Road.  Those planning to ride to Montezuma should include a ride out to Keystone Ranch.  To do this addition pass the fence and continue on Keystone Ranch Road to the end.  Return to the fence and ride back to the start.  The goal is to get back to the picnic around noon.

Most of you had name tags last week and it does work well.  Keep wearing them!

Bike Ride August 13

Hello Summit Bikers,

The grills at the amphitheater are still not usable so we will change venues to North Pond in Silverthorne.  North Pond is located about 2 miles north of I 70 on the right hand side across from the elementary school.

Please be prepare to ride at 9:30.  Bring something to cook as we are moving the venue to have a grill.

August 13 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers;

Sorry about the confusion this week and not having a grill or utensils.  Next week August 13 we are back in the county with a ride through the neighborhoods of Silverthorne.  We will meet at the Dillon Amphitheater parking lot ready to ride at 9:30 am.  We will have a grill and utensils next week.  Be sure to bring something to cook, a dish to share with your friends and something to drink.  Please print out the route below and bring it with you.  It may seem there are many turns, however it is simple to follow once on the ride.   If by chance you get lost ride downhill toward Route 9, find the rec path and return to the start.

An alternative for those who do not want to climb as much is to ride from the amphitheater to Frisco and either onto Copper or to Breckenridge, returning to the start around noon.

Please help this old trip leader who has memory problems and wear name tags, at least during lunch.

Bike Ride on Monday August 6

Hello Summit Bikers,

 

Next Monday, August 6 we will once again venture outside Summit County to East Vail.  The ride will be from Big Horn Park, starting at 10 am.  Plan to bring a dish to share with your friends. For those who would like to car pool meet at the west end of Frisco at the parking lot at 9 am.  Carpools are recommended as parking is tight.  Multiple rides are available from Big Horn, including West Vail Pass and the Gore Trail trough Vail and onto Minturn or Edwards.  The picnic will start around noon.

Directions to Big Horn Park: Go West to exit 180 in East Vail. Get off on the right and turn left going under I-70 on Bighorn Road. Go right on Streamside Circle. Stay on Streamside Circle and turn right on Meadow Drive. Bighorn Park is on the left ahead.

Remember tourists are in town (West Vail also gets many downhill riders), slow down and do not cut corners.  Use hand signals and let others verbally know where you are.
