Fruita Bike Trip vacancy

Hi bikers,

 

As you may have heard, some of the Summit Biking Group are going over to the Fruita/Grand Junction area for 3 days of biking, dining, wine tasting,... Oct. 13-15. I have a room with 2 beds reserved at the Two Rivers Winery chateaux for the nights of Oct. 13 and 14 so if anyone not registered for the tour would still like to go, they are welcome to share the room with me, and I can forward information about the tour.

September 28 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,   It is that time again when our biking season draws to a close.  For what will probably be our last ride we are doing something a little different.  We will meet in Silverthorne between Chipolte and Old Navy, near the bike path away from the stores, this Monday September 28.  Everyone should be ready to ride by 10 am   Chipolte is located on the north side of route 9 from I 70.  Take the right next to Wendys and the first left into the shopping center.    There are several options for rides starting at this location.  Option 1, is to ride up the dam path and on to Keystone and Montezuma. Option 2 is around the lake and return option 3 (which I will be leading) is one that winds through Silverthorne, Willowbrook and Three Peaks returning to the starting point.  After the ride we plan to enjoy lunch at Chipolte.  Since Chipolte is one of the largest donors to the Swan Mountain Rec path this year we felt it would be nice to hold the end of the season party there.    Bike shirts will be available for pick up during lunch.   Hope to see everyone there!   John Bowyer

Monday September 21st Ride

This Monday, 9/21 (weather permitting) we will go back to our usual Dillon start and head to Montezuma with shorter rides around the Lake or to Frisco.

The weather forecast for Monday is a high of 46 with possible rain/snow showers, so be sure to check our blog or your e-mail Monday morning to see if this ride gets canceled.

Bonnie will bring the BBQ stuff, so you can bring something to grill and a dish to pass.

We'll let it warm up a bit, so be ready to ride at 10.00am. Lunch will be closer to noon.

The following week, 9/28, will be the last "official" ride of the season.

September 14 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,   This Monday we are going back to visit Green Mountain Reservoir.  Meet at 10 am ready to ride.  For those that do not know this is about 10 miles North of Silverthorne on route 9.  Meet at the intersection of route 9 and Heeney Road.  Afterwards the picnic will be held at 1512 Legend Lake Circle (come to the back yard).  Please park on the same side of the street as the house, to comply with the parking permit, otherwise you risk a $40 ticket.  Please plan to bring something to share, cook (we will have a grill) and drink as well as lawn chairs.  This will give people a chance to talk to Margaret and see how the recovery is progressing.   Directions to Legend Lake Circle from Green Mountain Reservoir:  Drive south on route 9 past Three Peaks Golf Course.  Drive past the Golden Eagle / Bald Eagle Intersection and turn left at the next turn onto Blue River Run Circle.  Take the first left and go over a small bridge.  This puts you on Legend Lake Circle.  Take the first right and go around the circle to 1512 Legend Lake Circle, parking on the same side as the house.  If all else fails our number is 970 513-0610.   We hope to get in a few more rides but as everyone knows things can end fast this time of year.   Hope to see you there.   John Bowyer

Bike path closure Sept 14th

To all,

 

Brad at County Open Space and Trails informs me that the section of bike path from Officer's Gulch to the top parking lot (east of the Cooper Conoco) will be closed starting a week from tomorrow - Monday, Sept. 14th - for re-paving.

 

Once closed, bikers will need exit and enter at Officer's Gulch and ride I-70 to and from Copper.

Monday 8/31 Group Ride

This week's ride will take us down to Idaho Springs for the start. We will ride up to Georgetown and back. For those wanting more miles, you can head up to Guanella Pass or to Bakerville (or both). John Bowyer said the road between Idaho Springs and Georgetown is now complete and there is no longer a 2 miles section of gravel.

Picnic materials will be provided by the Chebuls, so bring something to share and, if you choose, to grill.

Plan to be ready to ride at 10.00am (we're giving everyone an extra half hour to get down there).

Try parking around Colorado Blvd and 23rd St. See attached map. There is a Park at this location which usually has ample parking. There is additional parking at the Tourist Info Center across the street. If all is full, the fall back parking will be behind the usual restaurants (The Buffalo Bar and Restaurant).

Al Kahn will have the jerseys for those that ordered a new one.

Margaret Knode Surgery

If you do not know Margaret Knode, please delete and sorry for the inconvience.   Hi,   This is to give the news that Margaret Knode has been rebuilt better than before and slightly taller.  The surgery went for about two hours and the surgeon reported to me that things were just as he expected.  Originally he stated he expects a full recovery for Margaret, which means more biking skiing and all the things we love to do in Summit County.   For those that did not know Margaret started having tingling in the hands in May.  At that time we thought it was a pinched nerve.  She even saw a doctor in England who gave her several tests and stated she would likely get back to her old self soon.  However, after returning to America the sensations did not go away so we went to our doctor here.  He did some tests and ran a MRI to determine she had an old injury which had developed some bone spurs.  He recommended a surgeon that he has respected.  In addition, we looked at non-surgical options seeing a doctor at Steadman Hawkins.  After seeing both of them it became obvious the only option was for surgery.  The bone spurs were pressing into her spinal column which if left untreated would eventually shut off all feeling below her neck.   It is now 3:15 pm and Margaret is in her room for the night.  She is weak on the right side, which the nurse says they will watch.   She is in very little pain but sleepy as you might expect.  If all goes well and some strength starts to return to her right side we expect to be out of here by noon Saturday and on our way back to Summit County.  The nurse just had her press up her hands and strength seems to returning to the right side.  In case we do not get out of here Saturday I will send another email.
