Friday Morning Ride Around The Lake w/Optional Lunch at Dillon Farmers Market

We had over a dozen on last Friday’s ride (see picture below) but only a handful who dared to be tempted by the delicacies at the Dillon Market.  Don Langmuir found the most delicious looking healthy breakfast sandwich.  I think it had Tofu eggs and Kelp/Seaweed Bacon J

Care to join me on a casual ride around Lake Dillon Friday morning?  Meet up at Pritchett’s Rock/Bench/Corner (where Silverthorne bike path ends up at the dam) and be ready to roll at 9:30.  We’ll head clockwise around the lake and end up at the Dillon Market for lunch.  There are plenty of bad food choices at the market.

Call or email me if you have questions.

July 3 Trail Dedication Ride

We have an additional ride next week to the dedication of the new Tenmile Canyon Recpath Extension behind the Conoco Station at Copper on Thursday July 3.  The 10 am dedication will be at the bridge near the trail head as you are riding up from Frisco near the parking lot for the Beaver Ponds.  Plan to meet at the West end of Frisco at 9 am ready to ride up the trail.  After the dedication enjoy the ride up the path for a mile towards Freemont Pass.  Follow this up with a ride up Vail Pass and plan to meet at Whole Foods around 12:30 pm were we will break for lunch. I encourage everyone to wear their Summit Biking shirts to the dedication and lunch.  It will show the county we support the bike paths.  In addition, we are working with Whole Foods to support the CTS ride this year.

Bikers are cautioned to be very careful when riding over the bridges on Vail Pass as the new boards have warped and caused several accidents.

There will be no ride the following Monday July 7.

June 30 Bike Ride

Sorry about this follow up but there was a question and I wanted to clarify.  We are riding from Team Managers and moving to the Frisco Marina after the ride for the picnic.

June 30 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers:

Sorry about leaving the charcoal behind last week.  It was not Bonnie's doing.

Next weeks ride is the yearly technical talk by Team Managers.  Last year Stewart treated us to coffee and a number of goodies and I suspect will be generous again.  Plain to meet for a discussion starting around 8:40, with a ride to either Copper or Vail Pass to follow, starting at 9:30.  A picnic will follow at the Frisco Marina around noon.  We will not have a grill but bring something to eat and share with your friends, as well as a drink.  If you have technical questions you would like Brad to address send them to me at bikebreck@yahoo.com.

Roger Paluska (rcpalu@gmail.com) is looking for a few good people to assist as course marshals on this years Circle the Summit Ride, August 16.  He is willing to take the lame and not so good people as well, as long as you can give some instruction to riders.

Use hand signals and ride safe.

June 23 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next weeks ride is to Montezuma or Loveland Pass.  Since we are unable to ride all the way to Montezuma the plan is to ride up as far as we can and then ride around the Lake (clockwise).  Those riding to either A-Basin or Loveland Pass please use caution as all hazmat trucks use Loveland Pass as well as many visitors.

Meet at the Dillon Amphitheater at 9:30 am ready to ride.  We will have a grill so bring something to cook and share with your friends.  As always bring your own drink.  Aim to be at the picnic around noon.

Remember to use hand signals and ride safe.

In case of emergency my cell number is 970 393-2190.

Tenmile Canyon Recpath Extension Ribbon Cutting

Plan to attend the grand opening/ribbon cutting of the Tenmile
Canyon Recpath Extension connecting to Highway 91 behind the Copper
Mountain Conoco Station on July 3 at 10:00 a.m.

This multi-year project included construction of two bridges over
Tenmile Creek and nearly 7,500 linear feet of new Recpath at a cost of
approximately $1.4 million. Partners in the project included Summit
County Government, Colorado Department of Transportation, US Forest
Service, Copper Mountain Resort, Climax Molybdenum Company, Summit
Biking Club and many other supporters.

The event will occur at the downstream bridge located adjacent to the
frontage road at the intersection of Highway 91 and Copper Road.

June 16 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next week was to be our yearly meeting but since there are a number of initiatives are under way we felt it was better to delay the meeting to firm things up and to have more people back in the county.

Meet at the Dillon Amphitheater at 9:30 am ready to ride.  The ride is up to Copper Mountain to Officers Gulch (which keeps us out of the water) returning to finish the loop around the Lake Dillon.  Those that want a slightly easier ride can ride to Frisco and then to Breckenridge and return.  We will have a grill so bring something to cook and share with your friends.  As always bring your own drink.  Aim to be at the picnic around noon.

Remember to use hand signals and ride safe.

In case of emergency my cell number is 970 393-2190.

Circle The Summit Registration is Open!

The 7th Annual Circle The Summit Bike Ride will be Saturday, August 16

Summer is cycling season in Colorado. The Circle the Summit Ride provides a great chance to experience some of the most glorious routes in our state – loved by both  amateur and professional riders.
Choose one of four supported rides - a fun and easy 21 mile loop on the new bike path around Lake Dillon, a 45 mile trip that circles Lake Dillon before heading up Vail Pass, a 60-mile route that takes you to scenic Ute Pass, or challenge yourself with the 6000' climb Century Ride that takes you to Ute Pass, A-Basin and Vail Pass.

Rider cap is set at a low of 750, so plenty of opportunity to ride at your own pace!  This late summer ride is a great chance to assess your season's fitness goals. Funds from this event will expand bike path maps and signage and develop more designated bicycle lanes in Summit County.

Visit Circlethesummit.com and click on REGISTRATION.
Once you have registered, invite your BFF's, riding buddies, kids, co-workers, in-laws and anyone else who loves to ride to join you on August 16!

June 9 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

Next weeks ride will be from Idaho Springs to Georgetown and back. This was canceled last week but I thought we should reschedule before it was too hot.  Some riders may want to go on to either Silver Plume or Loveland Ski Area and return. We will meet at the Courtney Riley Cooper Park in Idaho Springs at 10 a.m. ready to ride.   To get to the park take exit 240 from I 70, turn left on 13 Ave (toward town).  At Colorado Boulevard go right.  The park is on the left next to the creek.  The drive takes about 45 minutes.  We will have a grill so bring something to cook and something to share with your friends.  As always bring what you would like to drink.

All of this is on county roads with some traffic but not much.  Riders are encouraged to use hand signals so others are aware of turns, stops and rode obstacles.

Get others to come along.  This is an active area and many of your neighbors may want to ride with a group.

In case of a breakdown on the day of the ride call my cell number is 970-393-2190.

Ride safe and have fun!
