No July 6 Bike Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

There will not be a ride next week, July 6 as the County is very crowded over the Fourth of July weekend. Due to the large crowds I ride little if at all over any weekend and especially this weekend. Please ride defenesibly if you go out. Our next Monday ride will be July 13.

Idaho Springs Parking Pictures

Hello John,

Coming from the west the sign, is almost impossible to see. The west entrance sign needs signage west of the entry not east of the entry. Duh... Especially with any oncoming traffic you can't pause or do an extreme right angle to get a good view of the sign.

I guess I will try and send this email to the sheriff. Who set the rule about parking in the park lot and not being able to leave to perhaps spend money in the town? I won't be back to this town as often would be my feelings…

Thanks for the heads up!

George

Fw: Photos for anyone to use

Attached are some photos entering the parking lot at Idaho Springs, taken by George Blincoe. They show the sign is difficult if not impossible to read from
the direction we came from. Feel free to use for any complaint letters.

Summit Biking June 15 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers:

The following rules will be in effect to future notice.

-- Everyone must have a buff or face mask. Anyone not having a buff or face mask will not be permitted to ride with the group. This need to worn at the start and until there is a separation of at least 6 feet.

-- We will verify that we have a waiver signed from all participants and if not require one to be completed prior to riding. Most members did this when they paid their dues. We will have waivers available for those who did not or prospective riders who have not joined.

-- Riders need be at least 6 feet apart, maintaining social distancing.

-- Groups should be 10 or fewer.

Last week things worked well so let's keep it up.

June 15 we will ride to either Montezuma, A-Basin or Loveland Pass.  We will meet at the Dillon Amphitheater Parking lot between 9:30 and 10 am.  I suggest avoiding the rec path through Keystone as more tourist may make it busy.  The suggested way is to turn right on Elk Drive going through the fence to Keystone Ranch Road and going left through the River Run Area of Keystone (groups often gather back up in River Run, since this is convenient for bathroom and water) to Montezuma Road and to Montezuma.  Anyone not familiar with this route should let the me know so we can match you up with another rider. Please do not gather on the road at the end of Montezuma Road.  When you turn around in Montezuma to return stay off to the right side of the road.  For those who want to do a little more ride out to Keystone Ranch on return. Those wanting to bring a sandwich and picnic after the ride are free to. Please be sure to social distance.

We want groups to start with 10 or fewer. While on the recpath you will likely encounter more people without face masks or buffs. Numbers have been increasing as more tourist arrive in our area. The good thing is we are moving past one another and often in a wind, reducing our potential exposure. Anyone not comfortable with this should not ride.

For those on last weeks ride that received a ticket I apologize. We have used Courtney Park a couple of times since they reopened two years ago, without a problem. Fighting a $20 parking ticket is only worth so much effort. I suggest writing that the sign stating use of the park is for picnics is not visible when entering from the West. Those with a good picture of the sign showing how difficult it is to read should include it. Needless to say we will be using a different parking lot in the future.

Ride safe!

Clarification On June 1 Ride Picnic

Hello Summit Bikers,

Your ride coordinator made a mistake on next weeks ride. We will not have a group picnic. Riders are free to bring lunch and picnic with others, keeping social distancing (SD) in mind and limiting groups to no more than 10. The setting along Clear Creek is beautiful.

Normally the ride emails are taken from the previous year and updated for any changes. I missed the fact that the picnic was in there. Probably a subconscious desire to have them back. Sorry for the error.

Ride safe,

Fw: Summit Biking June 8 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers:

The following rules will be in effect to future notice.

Last week things worked well so lets keep it up.

Our next ride, June 8 will be between Idaho Springs and Georgetown and back.  Be prepared to ride between 10 am and 10:30.  Riders will be sent off in small groups. This ride is an out and back but there are some turns so new people should ride with someone. Identify yourself to me the day of the ride and we will take care of you. Meet at Courtney Ryley Cooper park (2350 Colorado Blvd).  Idaho Springs built a parking lot in front of the park that will hold about 25 cars.  Other parking is to the west on Colorado Blvd.

To get to the park from Summit County take exit 240 from I 70, and turn left onto 13th Ave.  Turn right on Colorado Blvd and continue on to park (on the left).  The drive takes about 45 minutes.  Picnic to follow at the park after the ride.  Please bring something to share with your friends as well as a sandwich and something to drink.  We will not have a grill.

Riders are encouraged to use hand signals so others are aware of turns, stops and road obstacles.  Riders are encouraged to wear name tags since there are many new people.  Any name tag will do as long as it shows your name.

In case of a breakdown on the day of the ride call my cell number is 970-393-2190.

Ride safe and have fun!
