Monday May 22nd Ride - Green Mountain Reservoir

Hi Summit Biking

Next week's ride, Monday May 22nd,, will be the Green Mountain Reservoir.  The ride is being coordinated by Polly Koch. The start of the ride is at the intersection of Route 9 and Heeney Road, approximately 20 miles north of Silverthorne. Plan to be ready to ride at 10:00 am. Most of the parking is on route 9 at the intersection with Heeney Road. Be careful crossing route 9 as it is a busy road. Heeney Road is not very busy, but it is a road with some traffic and people are encouraged to ride single file near the shoulder. This is the only Summit County ride with rolling hills as you ride on the west side of the reservoir.  It is an out-and-back ride, so turn around as you wish.  The entire route out and back is around 22 miles. Pay attention as there are some potholes and a rough spot or two.   When you reach the end of Heeney Road as it rejoins Route 9, please be aware of traffic turning onto Heeney Road, and stay to the side of the road.

As the weather may not be conducive to a picnic, let's leave it as an informal gathering at North Pond Park in Silverthorne after the ride.  Bring your own drink and sandwich and hang out with your fellow riders if the weather cooperates.

May 15 River Point/South Platte ride

Next weeks ride, May 15, will be a new one in Denver.  It starts at River Point, approximately 69 miles from Summit County.  To get there drive East on I70 to 470 South.  Take the 285 exit East.  When you get to the stop light for River Point Parkway be in the right lane and turn right.  The parking is on the left soon after the turn.  They are building a new office building and the parking is to the left of the building.  You should not go across the bridge.  The bike path is across the grass about 20 feet. (They have blocked the stairs.)  There is no restroom at the start, but once on the rec-path they are numerous. Once on the path you can go left and across the bike bridge to the rec-path.  Turn left and head South.  Ride as far as you wish.  A good goal is Chatfield Reservoir.  Riding to the top of the dam and returning is about 20 miles.  Plan to meet at 10 am, ready to ride.

Afterwards you can drive over the bridge and join others for lunch at Panera's and go shopping at the Costco nearby.

Hello Summit Biking

On Thursday, June 25, Silverthorne Elementary School is having the annual "bike rodeo".

One of the aims of this event is to have every student ride a bike.  Plus have fun

on a bike.  Teachers will bring one grade level at a time out behind the school for

the Rodeo.

The school will have three different courses set up for them to ride.

We will help facilitate the bike riders.

There are two sessions of the event

1. Morning   8:30 to 11:40

2. Afternoon 12:45 to 3:45

Volunteers can work one or both sessions.

Summit Biking has worked this event for many years.  Please help again this year.

Email me if you can help plus what session you want to work.

Thanks
