Fw: Summit Biking June 1 Ride

Hello Summit Bikers,

We have been trying to decide the best way to proceed with this year's rides and think we have an approach that will work.  Our plan is to do the same ride but stagger the start over an hour and half.  All announcements will be made via email and riders will proceed once a group of ten is reached or can just show up and go.  There will be no picnic although riders are free to bring lunch and picnic with others, keeping social distancing (SD) in mind and limiting groups to no more than 10.  Buffs (a light weight face covering) is encouraged prior to the start.  Once riders start riding we tend to spread naturally so a face covering is not necessary. When on the rec paths passing or approaching others, you might want to bring the Buff back up to cover your face until the path is again empty. For this to work we need the assistance of participants.  It will be important to not stand around and socialize. We will have someone at the start to encourage people to SD and move out.  Of course this means we will not have a leader nor sag rider.  The organizer will do the ride at the end of the time slot so that if anyone does have a mechanical failure you will not be left on your own.  For those not familiar with our routes most of them are posted on our web site (summitbiking.org) or contact me (giving me roughly your ability level) and I will arrange to have another member ride along to show you the route.

Hopefully we will return to normal soon.

Next weeks ride, June 1, will be the Green Mountain Reservoir. The start of the ride is at the intersection of Route 9 and Heeney Road, approximately 20 miles north of Silverthorne. Plan to be ready to ride between 9 and 10:30 am.  Having staggered start times will help ensure we are not all bunched up.  Most of the parking is on route 9 at the intersection with Heeney Road. Be careful crossing route 9 as it is a busy road. Heeney Road is not very busy but it is a road with some traffic and people are encouraged to ride single file near the shoulder. This is the only Summit County ride with rolling hills as you ride on the west side of the reservoir.  Pay attention as there are some pot holes and a rough spot or two.

This is a fun ride to bring a guest along since it is an out and back and difficult to get lost on.

Ride Safe!
